Basilica facade
Jesus Christ’s words “EGO SUM VIA VERITAS ET VITA” (“I am the way, the truth and the life”) are to be read on the facade.Pediment statues are those of Virgin Mary with the Infant Jesus in her lap, flanked with the group of Hungarian kings and saints. Tower niches hold figures of the four occidental Fathers of the Church: St. Ambrose, St. Jerome, St. Augustine and St. Gregory the Great. Recesses in the drum frame sitting figures of the four Evangelists facing the four cardinal points of direction. A group of large figures of Jesus Christ and the twelve apostles, of statues by Leó Feszler, is to be found on the front gallery of the east side. Over the Apostle’s Gate by Ödön Szamovolszky, the porch is marked by a marble tondo, shaped by Károly Senyei, of the patron saint of the church. The semicircular mosaic with Christ enthroned on clouds is a work of art by Mór Thán. In the foyer of the church, above the gate of the Apostle Ödön Szamovolszky, you can see the marble altarpiece of the Basilica's eponymous saint, modelled by Károly Senyei.
