Basilica as a concert venue

The St. Stephen’s Basilica besides the liturgical events provides concert venue for choirs and orchestras. Besides the acoustics, the fascinating view of the interior, architecture creates a special attraction for both visitors and performing artists.

Concert Venue and Seat Capacity

The concert venue is the main churchall of the Basilica. There is no heating in the church, which means that neither the pews nor the sanctuary are heated, which can cause difficulties, especially in January, February and March. 

Earliest possible start of the concert during the day: 10:00
Latest possible start of the concert during the day: 16:00
Earliest concert start in the evening: 20:00
The Basilica is open to tourists from 9:00 to 17:40. If a concert and/or rehearsal takes place during this time, tourists stay inside the church. The free movement of performers will be cordoned off. 

Inside the Basilica every day Holy Masses are celebrated between 18:00 and 19:00. The space of the Church must be replaced in an adequate condition for the Holy Mass by 17:30 the latest. After the Holy Mass we can provide the space at the disposal of the concert to complete the necessary preparations by 19:00 the earliest. 

Maximum seat capacity: 800 persons
Seat capacity in pews and chairs: 540 persons
Extra seats: 260 persons
The number of seats shall be taken into account when inviting and registering guests. Wishing to invite more than 530 people to the concert, must be used the extra seats. Standing place is not available due to escape routes and safety regulations. Seats are not numbered, sectors can only be allocated. The Lessee is responsible for marking them. Please note that due to disaster management regulations, no more than 800 people will be admitted to the concert. There is no possibility for standing places because of escape routes and other security measures. The seats are not numbered, only different sectors can be formed. The designation of these sectors is the task of Lesse (Organiser). Please consider that because of security measures no more than 800 persons can be admitted to the concert..

In case of every concert the visit of the venue is required to discuss technical detailes and conditions.

Rooms and premises use by artists and staff
Artists and staff of the Organizer can use the following premises depending on the number of the contributors.

Mary’s Room
Capacity: 50 fő
Facilities: tables and chairs
Toilets: 3 on the corridor 

Religion Lecture Rooms
Number of rooms: 3 rooms opening one from another
Capacity: 150 persons
Facilities: tables and chairs
Toilets: 6 (behind the 3. room)

Repertoire

The repertoire of the concert is always has to be approved by the Music Committee of St. Stephen's Basilica (hereinafter the Committee). This is a condition for holding a concert in the Basilica. Please note that the Basilica is a sacred place and not all themes and musical styles are appropriate for it. In principle, we expect sacred works appropriate to the place, mainly classical, which texts do not contradict the teaching of the Catholic Church. The decision on the repertoire will be made unilaterally by the Committee on the basis of its own sacred music criteria. The final program will be approved via email. In certain cases, the texts and notes of the pieces may be requested. In certain cases the lyrics of the songs and the music sheets can be supervised as well.

Entrance
For entry of the guest, artists and staff, delivery of the large instruments and technical equipments can be used different entrances. The Organizer must secure the supervision of every entrances where deliveries and admittance in connection with the concert take place in order to avoid tourists or unauthorized persons from entering. It is advisable to have 2-4 staff members of the Organizer to help the guests finding their seats.

Admission of guests at the daytime concerts

Earliest start of concerts: 11:00

Latst start of concerts: The space of the Church must be emptied from the technical equipments, staff, audince until 17:30 the latest.
Admission 1. option: entranc through the main entrance with church hall ticket. 
Since the space is limited in front of the Main Entrance and always crowded with tourists, admission is possible by buying a ticket for th church hall. 

Admission 2. option: Entrance through the Mary’s Chapel fre of charge 
If the Organizer prefers the free admission of the concert audience, entrance will be from Mary’s Chapel which is a different acces to the Church. In this case Organizer must register the guests in advance and he is responsible that only those enter who are registered. 

Admission to the evening Concerts

Earliest start of concerts: 20:00
In case of evening concerts the Lessee (Organizer) must be aware that every day between 18:00 and 19:00 Holy Mass is held in the Basilica.On holidays the mass can take longer. Besides the eventuell Saund- and Stage Facilitiesmust be removed or dismented to a degree where the Holy Mass will be not disturbed.The degree of the removal will be determined by the technical staff of the Basilica during the technical inspection on the spot. Admission of the guests is through the main Entrance from both sides if necessary. VIP admission is possible through another door.
Admission of Contributors
Contributors can enter from the entrance of Bajcsy-Zsilinszky street. This is a controlled area operated by a dispatcher (ward) Contributors can move freely.

Delivery of Tchnical equipment/Admission of technical staff

Technical equipemets, Saund-and stage elements, Music-Sheat Stands and all oversized accessories or big quantity products that are required for the concert can be looded from the Prist’s Entance 
Sound Effects

The Saund-System of the Basilica is basically adjusted to speach, to spoken words of Holy Masses and liturgical events. In case during the concert the choir/orchestra requires a special Saund System, it is the obligation of the Organizer to install the necessary devices. a Technical spectionon the spot before the concert.It is possible to use the sound system of the Basilica if necessary.
In the space of the Basilica visszhang 6 másodperces.
In case of evening concerts the Organizer must be aware that possibility the technical installation must be removed or dismantled to a certain degree,so as not to disturbe the Mass. The degree of the removal will be decided by a staff member of th Basilica during a Technical Inspection before the concert.

Parking
5 parking lots are reserved in connection with the concert for the cars of guests, The registration number, colour and type of the cars must be informed to the Basilica previous day The registration number, colour and type of the cars must be informed to the Basilica previous day.
Projector System
In the Basilica Diapro projector system is functioning. The projected text should be sent by the Organizer in Microsoft Word formula. In case of lyrics the verses, refrains etc. must be marked so that the slides could be identified accordingly. The pictures should be sent in JPG or PNG formula. The received material will be installed by the staff of the Basilica. However prior to the cocert the Organizer must check the slides and will appoint his staff member to do the projection. 
Sale of tickts and advertisment
The Basilica is not engaged dirctly in promoting or organising audinces and will not sell tickts. If the Organizer sends the poster online, it will be displayd on the advertising board by the main entrance and will be put on our hompage, facebook and will be displayed at the Ticket Office. Upon request we can advertise the concert among Travel Agencies. Prior to the final poster image, consultation will be necessary with the cultural staff of th Basilica. About the proper admission time and the adquate information must be checked. 
TV, Video, Photo on the concert
The prior written consent of the Basilica Cultural Staff is required for any recording or broadcasting of the concert whether by video, radio, television, film or any other recordingmethod. By returning the completed chart – that you can find blow – it is necessary to have the written approval of the cultural staff. The completed recordings must be sent by Organizer to the Basilica staff who will approve them. Only after written approval the media materials can be published. The approval is valid only for one occasion and is applicable for the requested media. 
Contract
In connection with the concert in all cases contract must be signed. The Basilica can undertake exclusivly lease contracts. Venture or enterpreneur contracts are not possible. Please consider that only original contracts ar acceptable with originally signed examples. No scanned copies are accepted. The prerequisite condition to promote a concert is a contract.
